Virtualization: October 2010

Scott Charles
Roeing Corporation

Scott Charles described virtualization, mentioning an example where one company reduced a large roomful of servers to just six, leaving enough space in the room for basketball.

He said the desire to run many applications and virtual servers is now sometimes producing contention for resources on those virtual servers.

Desktop virtualization means a laptop can be set up so that while the user travels, all the data and programs stay on the server, increasing security. For reasons to go to virtualization and illustrations of its benefits, you can download and view his slide deck (PDF).
